As our year draws to an end and we begin to think of the New Year (and perhaps previous years), we got to thinking of the A to Z of fashion, things we have tried and are yet to try…our aim is to add at least 5 unworn items from Darcey's A to Z of Fashion to our 2017 wardrobe, care to give it a go? And have owned at least 5 of them before?
Darcey’s A to Z of Fashion
A - Angora, from the Angora rabbit & known for it's silk like feel
B - Bias Cut, Garments cut on the bias offer more elasticity and a flattering flow to the material
C- Culottes – Knee length trousers with a wide fit, thus resembling a skirt, comfortable and always in style
D - Denim – Denim jeans & skirts are so versatile whatever the season, a must have in all wardrobes
E – Embroidery – Sewn and often beautiful designs on clothing from cardigans, tops & skirts to dresses, certainly making a comeback, where on your top or bottom half with a plain garment vice versa
F -Fit & Flare, Elegant and flattering, we adore a fit and flare skirt or dress, ideal for those with tiny hips and perhaps more shapely thighs…
G- Gloves, Mittens, Driving gloves, cable knit, cashmere, sheepskin...need we go on?
H- Hat, challenge yourself to be a Hat person in 2017! You can’t beat a pom pom hat in the winter to a foldaway straw hat for your summer holidays
I- Iridescent, a garment appearing different colours in different lights or upon moving, it can be done right, normally one for the festive season (less is more)
J- Jeggings – Try them on, you would be surprised the vast array of shapes Jeggings fit, comfortable and fashionable, for the curvier shape style with long tops and tunics
K- Knitted – Whether you prefer a fine or chunky knit, knitted jumpers and cardigans will always be in fashion (& oh so cosy)
L- Lace, We believe everyone should have one garment made of lace, a simple black lace top with jeans will do you a multitude of occasions.
M- Mandarin Collar (an upright collar with a close fitting), a stylish addition to your SS17 capsule wardrobe
N- Niche, it does feel that bit more special to get clothing that bit different so your less likely to bump into people in the same clothing (say from a Sussex Boutique offering Fashion Brands from the UK & Abroad!?).
O - Ombre - a delicate change in colour from a dark to light shade (or vice versa), we love an ombre scarf in the summer worn over an all-white outfit for that pop of colour
P – Pyjamas, perhaps some silk pyjamas should be on your “to get list” for the New Year
Q- 3 Quarter length sleeves, Here to stay and we adore them, there is something comfortable and flattering about ¾ length sleeves, especially on dresses for those who are less comfortable with their arms, no cardigan needed too – hurrah!
R- Raglan, The style of a sleeve, where a continuous piece of fabric continues to the neck with no shoulder seam – casual and stylish, what’s not to like
S- Sportswear, Maybe a necessity after the Christmas indulgence….
T- Tunic – One of our favourite type of garments, worn with leggings/ skinny trousers or jeggings, once you start wearing them you won’t look back
U- Umbrella, A must have whatever the season, buy a good quality walking umbrella and even if its not raining you’ll still look stylish holding on to it, we have a soft spot for the Cath Kidston designs
V- Vent, a split for the overall look and ease of movement in the garment – a nice finishing touch to many dresses and skirts
W- Welt Pockets, sewn in to the garment (as opposed to stitched on), who doesn't love a good pocket – especially in a tunic
X- XL /XXL sizing, There is more on the market for the plus size lady than ever before, so get out there and try on – may we recommend 3 of our fashion brands: Cut Loose, Masai & Join for fashionable and flattering clothing for the curvy lady
Y- Yoke, shaped pattern piece normally fitting around the neck and shoulders
Z- Zip – we’d be lost without them, and a good pair of zip up boots is a necessity (for us).
Do let us know your fashion successes (or failures) of past and how you get on with any –re-styling or wardrobe additions in the New Year, and we are always happy to offer any advice.
Many thanks for reading our blog this year and hope you will join us in the New Year, wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2017 from us all at Darcey Sussex Boutiques.
